At the bottom of Byres Road, on a corner where it meets Dumbarton Road, German Doner Kebab has a branch in a handsome sandstone building with a lit arched doorway.

GDK is a döner chain, and it serves the kebab the German way: meat cut fresh from the spit, freshly prepared vegetables and its own sauces, made in the restaurant every day.

The kitchen is open, so you can watch it all happen. The original kebab comes in toasted bread, the box puts it over fries or rice, and there are wraps, loaded fries and a newer range of döner dishes, with halal meat. There are stools, booths and tables to eat in, and everything can be taken away. It opens from eleven in the morning until two at night, every day.
