Buachaille Etive Beag - Stob Dubh

A Munro of 958 metres, the higher top of Buachaille Etive Beag at the head of Glen Coe, climbed from the A82 by the Lairig Eilde path.

Welcome

Stob Dubh rises to 958 metres at the head of Glen Coe.

It is the higher of the two Munros on Buachaille Etive Beag, at the southern end of its ridge, and its partner, Stob Coire Raineach, is about 2 km to the north-east. Stob na Broige, on Buachaille Etive Mor, is about a kilometre and a half to the south-east, and Stob Coire Sgreamhach and Bidean nam Bian rise to the west.

The usual way up starts on the A82 at the foot of the Lairig Eilde and climbs to the bealach between the hill's two tops, then follows the ridge south-west. The pass runs through to Dalness in Glen Etive between huge screes of rock, and ScotWays thinks it an old coffin road, for the coffin cairn at its north end. The avalanche service's Glencoe forecast takes in the mountains south of the glen, from Bidean nam Bian to Buachaille Etive Mor. In the winter of 2010, it records, a large natural avalanche swept across the path up to the bealach. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
