Bidean nam Bian
A Munro of 1,149 metres behind the Three Sisters on the south side of Glen Coe, climbed from the A82 by Coire nan Lochan.
Bidean nam Bian rises to 1,149 metres on the south side of Glen Coe, behind the Three Sisters, the three great ridges that run down from it towards the glen.
The Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team calls it Glencoe's highest summit, and it is the twenty-fourth highest of all the Munros. Stob Coire Sgreamhach, the nearest Munro, is just over a kilometre to the south-east, and Coire Gabhail, the Hidden or Lost Valley, lies under the crags between them.
The usual way up starts from the busy parking areas beside the A82 below the Three Sisters and climbs Coire nan Lochan. The National Trust for Scotland looks after the ground north of the ridge, in its Glencoe National Nature Reserve, and asks for no campfires anywhere in the reserve. Under snow, the avalanche service warns, even a minor avalanche on the steep, craggy ground above the Lost Valley is likely to have very serious consequences, and its Glencoe forecast takes in the hill. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
