Buachaille Etive Beag - Stob Coire Raineach

A Munro of 925 metres on Buachaille Etive Beag at the head of Glen Coe, climbed from the A82 by the Lairig Eilde path.

Welcome

Stob Coire Raineach rises to 925 metres at the head of Glen Coe.

It is the northern of the two Munros on Buachaille Etive Beag, the top nearest the A82, and the lower of the pair: Stob Dubh, the other, is about 2 km to the south-west. Buachaille Etive Mor is its close neighbour, with Stob na Broige about 2 km to the south and Stob Dearg about 3 km to the east.

The usual way up starts on the A82 at the foot of the Lairig Eilde, the old path through to Glen Etive, and climbs to the bealach between the hill's two tops. ScotWays describes the pass as rugged mountain country, with huge screes of rock on both sides, and a coffin cairn stands at its north end. The avalanche service's Glencoe forecast takes in the mountains south of the glen, from Bidean nam Bian to Buachaille Etive Mor. In the winter of 2010, it records, a large natural avalanche swept across the path up to the bealach. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
