On Saturday the 6th September 2025, Fort William hosts the iconic Ben Nevis Race. Up to 600 runners start from Claggan Park at 1pm for a single-day uphill and downhill loop totalling around 14 km and 1,340 m of ascent. Entrants must belong to registered running clubs and complete qualifying hill races. Weather-dependent kit checks include mandatory waterproofs, hat, gloves and whistle, and runners who have not reached the summit within two hours are turned back. The race traces the Ben Path to the summit and back, drawing hill running enthusiasts from across Scotland and beyond as one of the sport’s most enduring challenges.
