Ben Lomond

Add to List

Introduction

Sitting almost directly on the Highland Boundary Fault Line which separates the Highlands from the Lowlands, Ben Lomond is one of Scotland's most southerly munros. Rising to an impressive 3,193 feet, Ben Lomond offers walkers some of the finest views over Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. This is one of Scotland's most popular munros and with good reason.  It's within easy reach of Glasgow, taking around 1.5 hours to reach the starting point. It's got an excellent path with an ascent of the mountain taking roughly 3 hours to complete. The route starts at the forestry commision car park at Rowardennan, there is a well sign posted tourist route up the mountain which takes around 3-4 hours to complete.  There is a lesser known route which takes you up the summit of Ptarmigan, this route is longer but much more interesting and quieter. For refreshments after your walk, try the Rowardennan Hotel. Distance: 7.5 miles Time: 5.5 hrs Ascent: 990m Start Grid Ref: NS359986
