The long timber-clad side of the house runs under a slate roof with solar panels, white chairs on the terrace and a clear blue sky.

Places to Stay in Fife

Fife is full of pretty fishing villages, sandy beaches and gentle farmland, all within easy reach of St Andrews. These are our favourite places to stay across the Kingdom, from little cottages in the East Neuk to stylish architect-designed houses with hot tubs.

Fife is a lovely place for a few days away. Walk a stretch of the Fife Coastal Path, eat fish and chips by the harbour in one of the East Neuk villages, and spend an afternoon in St Andrews. Inland, the farmland rolls down to the Firth of Tay, with quiet lanes and big skies.

We've picked out places to stay right across the county. In the fishing village of Pittenweem there are snug cottages and studios, including one built in 1590 and a house with views over the harbour and the Firth of Forth. Near Newburgh, there are stylish architect-designed houses on farmland, several with their own hot tubs and one with a sauna. There's also a treehouse for two in a quiet wood, with an outside bath among the branches. Several of them welcome dogs too.
