The Fisherman's Walk – Brodick Bay, the Dog and Lunch

About 3.6 miles on foot.

Directions
Brodick ferry terminalStartCladachWhere you turn

The Fisherman's Walk is Brodick's favourite stroll: a path along the back of the beach and over the golf course bridge to Cladach, with Goatfell rising ahead across the bay.

There's sand for a dog to run on, and at the far end the Wineport, a pub at the foot of the hill that welcomes dogs, does lunch. It's an easy morning on foot, in any season.

Time
About 40 minutes each way.
The path
A flat path along the back of the beach; the shore stretches can be soft or muddy.
Where to start
None needed: the walk starts at the ferry terminal.
When to go
The walk is open at all times; the Wineport opens every day of the year from 11am, with food from noon.
Dogs
Free to run on the sand; keep it close across the golf course. Bags: the council fines £80 for fouling.
Toilets
At the ferry terminal, and at the Wineport for customers.
Before you set out
Part of the path crosses the golf course.

The walk

From the ferry terminal, walk north through Brodick to the beach and follow the Fisherman's Walk along the back of the sand. It crosses the Rosaburn by the golf course bridge and carries on by the shore to Cladach: about 41 minutes and 2.9 km each way, flat and easy.

A dog can run on the sand, so take a ball, and keep it close across the golf course. The council fines £80 for fouling, so bring bags.

Goatfell rises ahead of you most of the way.

If it rains

In rain the shore path is wet but short; the Wineport has tables indoors, and on a wild day walk only as far as the Rosaburn and back.

    Lunch

The Wineport is at Cladach, where the walk ends, at the foot of the Goatfell path. It opens every day from 11am and serves food from noon, with tables outside and dogs welcome. Go for lunch rather than late in the afternoon, and ring 01770 302101 to check in winter. If it's full, Home Farm, a few minutes back along the road, has Blackwater Bakehouse for a picnic, Tuesday to Saturday until the bread sells out. Then walk back the same way.
