Angus
Smokies, Star Rock and a bookshop wardrobe.
Shopping in Angus means taking something home to eat or keep. In Arbroath, family smokehouses by the harbour still smoke Arbroath smokies, and one makes hot-smoked salmon too. Kirriemuir has a sweet shop founded in 1833, still making its own Star Rock to a recipe passed down the years. In Glamis village, five old workers' cottages hold a gallery of Scottish art and craft with working studios. Montrose has an independent bookshop with a children's room through a wardrobe door, and a florist with a coffee hatch in an old bowling clubhouse. Smokies are best eaten warm, so buy them on the day.

That is everything for today. Tomorrow's first posts go up in the morning. Or have the best of it in your inbox each morning in the Daily.
