Welcome

Turriff is a market town in the farming heart of Buchan, and its museum tells the town's story.

The permanent exhibition runs through the history of the town and its old town council, the Covenanting times, and the Turra Coo, the white cow at the centre of a famous stand-off in 1913 that made the town's name across Britain.

Temporary exhibitions bring out farming artefacts and local collections, and the museum is a stop on the Aberdeen Angus Trail, which follows the breed back to its home country.

The Doric Neuk is the part to linger in. It celebrates North-East Scots, the Doric, the everyday speech of this corner of Scotland, with books, events, quizzes and a guide to getting started for anyone who wants a go. It is a friendly, volunteer-run place, and the opening hours are worth checking before a visit.
