The Platform and Annie's Cakery

Macduff's old railway station of 1872, now shops and a patisserie looking over the Moray Firth.

Welcome

Macduff's railway station opened in 1872 and closed to passengers in 1951, and for years it had no clear purpose.

Now it is the Platform, and VisitScotland has given it five stars.

The station buildings hold a run of shops: clothing for men and women, gifts, home furnishings, and bikes and watersports kit. The reason to come, though, is Annie's Cakery, the little patisserie in the station, which does light lunches, good coffee, afternoon tea and a counter of cakes, with celebration cakes made to order.

The view from its windows goes right out over the Moray Firth. On a calm day it is worth keeping an eye on the water, as dolphins are sometimes seen from here. It makes an easy afternoon combined with Macduff's harbour and the marine aquarium nearby, and with Duff House across the river in Banff.
