Portsoy Ice Cream

A family ice cream maker in Portsoy since 2003, churning more than a hundred flavours and sorbets in its own shop, with a coffee corner, open every day.

On Seafield Street in Portsoy, on the Moray Firth coast, a granite corner shop with a curved sign has been making ice cream since 2003.

Alex, who runs it, grew up on the family's Cullen Street Dairy, where his grandfather kept cows more than a hundred years ago, and where Alex and his brother once bottled milk and delivered it to the villages around before breakfast.

Everything is made in the Portsoy shop, in small batches, with no added air and with milk and cream from the nearest dairy, in Nairn. The rolling range runs to more than a hundred ice creams and sorbets, so there is always something new in the cabinet, and the shop has won award after award at the National Ice Cream Competition in Harrogate.

There is a coffee corner too, for waffles, sundaes and hot drinks made by trained baristas. Take a cone down to Portsoy's old harbour, a few minutes' walk away.
