Along the harbour front of Plockton, where cabbage palms grow by the shore of Loch Carron, the Plockton Hotel stands out with its smart black-and-white front.

It is a warm, family-run hotel, and many of its rooms look straight out over the loch to the mountains.

The kitchen serves home-cooked food, with seafood from these waters and Highland steaks, and breakfast comes with a stay. The bar is a lively, friendly place that has been named the bar of the year for the north-west of Scotland.

The hotel opens every day from late morning until late at night, so it serves as well for lunch after a walk round the village as for a long evening by the water. Plockton is small, so park where you can and stroll in along the shore.
