The sheltered bays around Plockton, dotted with little islands and white-sand coves, are one of the best places on the west coast to learn to sea kayak, and Sea Kayak Plockton will take you out to explore them.

Trips run in small groups, as half days or full days, and they suit complete beginners as well as families and mixed groups of every age and level of experience. The guides, Alison and Nick, are praised again and again for being patient, fun and careful about safety, making sure every paddler is comfortable before heading out across the calm water of Loch Carron.

On a good day you glide past rocky islets and pull up on quiet beaches, with the hills of Wester Ross all around. Trips are booked ahead, and the office opens on weekdays.
