Makars Mash Bar
A restaurant on Bank Street at the top of the Mound, opened in 2015, serving Scottish dishes on mash, from slow-cooked lamb to its own haggis, with plenty for vegans.
There's nothing more comforting than a plate of mash on a cold Edinburgh day, and Makars Mash Bar, on Bank Street at the top of the Mound, has made it into something special.
It opened in 2015, serving classic Scottish dishes with mash, from slow-cooked lamb and Scotch beef to its own haggis, made in the kitchen every morning. Vegetarians and vegans are well looked after too, with lion's mane mushrooms grown at its own farm at Summerhall, and there are gluten-free choices, even the Scotch eggs. More than half the tables are kept for walk-ins: come to the second door and they'll text you when your table is ready, though the wait can be over an hour in the evening. Bookings open thirty days ahead, to the minute. It's open every day from noon, with last orders at 8.30pm.
