Introduction

Jura is one of the islands of the Southern Hebrides. It measures around 30 miles by 9 miles but has a population of only around 200. This is the place to go if you want to be assured of spotting a deer as there are an amazing 5500 deer on the island. The island has a few crofting communities and one village called Craighouse which has a church, a hotel, a shop and a tea-room. There are historical sites to be found including Iron Age forts, standing stones and ancient burial grounds. It’s a walkers dream as you can walk for miles enjoying the scenery, the wilderness and the wildlife.
