Darnley Coffee House
A coffee house in an old stone building on Bow Street, below the castle, known for its soups and a ghost story.
Darnley Coffee House is on Bow Street, the steep cobbled street that curves up into Stirling's Old Town, in a handsome old stone building with its name painted in blue script above the windows.
It is a good stop on the climb to the castle, a few minutes' walk below the esplanade, and a warm place to come in out of the wind.
It is a coffee house of the old kind, serving coffee and cake, with soup, sandwiches and toasties at lunchtime. The house has a reputation among lovers of the paranormal too: the building is one of the most historic in the Old Town, and it is said to have a poltergeist, though by day it is a calm, friendly café. Stop here before or after the castle, the Church of the Holy Rude or the Old Town Cemetery, all a short walk up the hill. It keeps its own hours, so check before you go.
