Carn an Tuirc
A Munro of 1,019 metres on the east side of the A93 at Glenshee, climbed from a car park on the A93 north of the Glenshee ski centre.
Carn an Tuirc rises to 1,019 metres on the east side of the A93 at Glenshee, in Aberdeenshire.
The Cairngorms National Park Authority gives the name's meaning as the mountain of the wild boar. The Glenshee ski centre counts it among the nine Munros within reach of its car parks. Its nearest neighbour is Cairn of Claise, about 2 km to the south-east, with Glas Maol about 4 km to the south.
Invercauld Estate names it among the Munros on its ground, warns that some paths can be very rough, and asks walkers to follow its signs. In the ski season the ski centre gives a Glas Maol Route for walkers and ski tourers east of the A93, which may change when snow is lean. The councils work snow gates on the A93 at the Spittal of Glenshee and at Braemar. The Scottish Avalanche Information Service names the Cairnwell and Glas Maol ranges in its Southern Cairngorms area. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
