Calum's Seal Trips

An hour's boat trip from Plockton harbour out to the seals of Loch Carron, run by Calum MacKenzie and his crew, and free if you see no seals.

Welcome

Plockton is one of the prettiest villages in the Highlands, strung along a sheltered bay of Loch Carron, and from its harbour front Calum MacKenzie and his crew take visitors out to see the seals.

They are so confident of finding them that the trip is free if they don't.

The boat heads out among the little islands and skerries of the loch, where seals haul out on the weed-covered rocks to bask, and often slip into the water to look back at you. Keep watch for otters and seabirds too. On the way, the crew tells the story of the loch and its shores, and there are fine views back to Plockton and to Duncraig Castle.

Trips take about an hour and sail four times a day in the season; book at busy times. On some evenings there are longer cruises into Loch Kishorn, with the Applecross mountains and the Cuillin of Skye in view.
