Welcome

Halfway along the High Street in Forres, behind a smart white shopfront with gold lettering and a few blue tables on the pavement, Cafe 1496 is one of the busiest spots in town.

Its promise is simple: breakfast, all day, every day.

That means eggs benedict whenever you fancy them and stacks of pancakes, alongside lunches, cakes and bakes. The coffee is roasted locally and poured with care, often with a heart drawn in the foam, and the cafe is licensed from eleven in the morning.

It opens every day, from eight on Saturdays, and the kitchen serves until half past three, or three on Sundays. It gets busy, so booking a table at weekends is wise. Afterwards, walk it off with a climb to Nelson's Tower on Cluny Hill above the town.
