Ben Hope

A Munro of 927 metres, the most northerly in Scotland, above Strath More in Sutherland, climbed from the Strathmore road by its southern slopes.

Welcome

Ben Hope rises to 927 metres in Sutherland, close to the shores of Loch Hope, and it is Scotland's most northerly Munro.

It stands a long way from the rest: its nearest Munro neighbour, Ben Klibreck, is about 23 kilometres to the south-east, and Ben More Assynt is about 34 kilometres to the south-west. Nearly all of its height is its own, for it rises 772 metres above the lowest ground joining it to any higher hill. The summit lies at grid reference NC 477 501, on the Ordnance Survey's Explorer 447 and Landranger 9 maps.

There may be deer stalking on the hill: Mountaineering Scotland suggests checking the Heading for the Scottish Hills website, or the estate's own, before you go. No avalanche forecast covers Ben Hope, which does not mean there is no risk here under snow. Do not count on a toilet, a shop, fuel or a bus near the start. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
