Places to Stay by the Water in Lochaber

In Lochaber the water is never far away, with long lochs running between the mountains. These are the places to stay where it's right at the door, from cottages on the shore to a cabin with its veranda reaching out over the river.

Lochaber's lochs are a big part of what makes it so special. Loch Linnhe is a long sea loch running up from the coast to Fort William, and Loch Shiel stretches away from Glenfinnan between steep, green hills. Stay beside one and the water sets the pace of your day, from the first cup of tea on the doorstep to the last light on the loch at night.

We've gathered our favourite places to stay right by the water. There's an old schoolhouse on a quiet bay on the shore of Loch Linnhe, and a stone cottage on the same shore. On the banks of Loch Shiel there's an 18th-century hunting lodge, far from anywhere. Near Glencoe there are cabins with private hot tubs, one with its veranda out over the river and another above Loch Linnhe.
