Skye is full of people making beautiful things, and some of the best afternoons on the island are spent finding them. There are potters, weavers, silversmiths and jewellers, a sheepskin tannery on a croft, galleries in an old church and an old telephone exchange, and an honesty-box shed at the end of the road stocked with homemade tablet. You'll also find independent bookshops, a zero-waste shop and bottle shops full of island gin and whisky. Buying direct from the maker is a lovely way to take a piece of Skye home.
