Dores Inn revamp gets the green light

Plans to overhaul the Dores Inn on the southern shore of Loch Ness were approved by Highland Council's south planning applications committee on 6 August. The pub dates to around the 1820s and has been closed since WildLand bought it in 2024. WildLand is the conservation company run by Anders Holch Povlsen and his wife Anne, who also own nearby Aldourie Castle and twelve Highland estates.

The approved scheme adds a café and bakery, a shop and a boat jetty. Parking goes up to more than 110 spaces across two car parks. There will be public toilets and changing facilities for the beach, which is the real draw at Dores, a long pebbly shoreline with the whole length of the loch stretching away from it. The stream running past the site gets a more natural course, and the football pitch and play park move.

Work is phased over roughly two years, and councillors were told access to the beach and the woodland stays open throughout. Lavinia Turner, Head of Region for WildLand Loch Ness, thanked Dores and Essich Community Council and the locals who shaped the plans. WildLand now has to discharge the conditions attached before setting a timetable.
