Makers Café
Scottish Autism's community café in Alloa, with soup, toasties and home baking, and a shop and gallery of autistic artists' work.
Makers Café is a bright community café in Makers Village on Ludgate, in the middle of Alloa, and it is Scottish Autism's community hub.
It offers autistic people and people with learning disabilities a real workplace, in the kitchen and front of house, where they can learn new skills and build their confidence, and it is a warm, welcoming place to stop for lunch.
The food is simple and good, made with local ingredients: soup with a toastie, a panini or a baked potato, home-baked cakes such as the chocolate traybake, and coffee from Myrtle. The jams and chutneys are made by another Scottish Autism team at Balmyre. Alongside the café are a shop and a gallery where autistic artists show and sell their work, and a kitchen garden, and there is a changing programme of community events. It opens on weekdays, Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
