On the Woodmarket in the middle of Kelso, behind a dark green shopfront, Dor is an independent shop that is half lifestyle store and half coffee bar.

Its idea is simple: things made well by skilled makers and designers, for people who would rather buy less but better.

The shelves hold homeware and gifts, clothing, skincare and pantry goods, all chosen with a careful eye. The coffee has a following of its own. On Fridays there is fresh bread from a local baker, which can be ordered ahead.

Dor opens from Monday to Saturday, from nine in the morning. It is a short walk from Kelso Abbey and the town's cobbled square, so it is an easy place to stop for a coffee and a browse.
