Aberdeen Town House
Introduction
Aberdeen Town House is a stunning example of neo-gothic architecture, dating from the 1870s. Located in the heart of the city, the building showcases Aberdeen’s granite heritage and was commissioned to replace the old Town House, which had stood on High Street since 1788. Designed by John Dick Peddie and Charles Kinnear, the ‘new’ Town House was constructed on Castle Street, incorporating the remains of a 17th century tolbooth and elements of the former Town House. The impressive tower is one of the city’s major landmarks and reflects the wealth and confidence of 19th century Aberdeen as a merchant city. Aberdeen Town House underwent a significant refurbishment between 2014 and 2017.
