A pedalo on Loch Faskally and a hot chocolate
Pitlochry

Pitlochry Boating Station – Pedalos, Ducks and Hot Chocolate

A few hours.

The route

Pitlochry Boating Station sits on the wooded shore of Loch Faskally, a few minutes from the middle of town, and it's a lovely spot for a morning with young children.

Take a pedalo or a rowing boat out on the still water for an hour, then warm up in the Loch Side Café with a hot chocolate and some home baking while the ducks potter about below the jetty.

Before you go

  2. Book a pedalo at Pitlochry Boating Station & Adventure Hire

Book a pedalo or rowing boat at Pitlochry Boating Station by phone on 01796 472919 (it takes no bookings by email), for an hour or two on a Wednesday to Sunday between 9am and 5pm, and in October ring first to check it is still open for the season.

The day

Loch Faskally

An easy morning on the water at the north end of Pitlochry. Out on a pedalo first, then hot chocolate and cake in the café by the jetty.

About two hours

  1. Pitlochry Boating Station & Adventure Hire

Pitlochry Boating Station & Adventure Hire

    An attraction

The boating station is on Clunie Bridge Road, at the north end of Pitlochry, where the Loch Side Café's customers park free beside the log cabin. Pedalos take up to five people and go out for an hour or two, and there are rowing boats too, with buoyancy aids and life jackets included (a rowing boat takes a £10 deposit). The boating station takes bookings by phone only, so ring ahead, and boats go out only when the weather is fair. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm, from Easter, and shuts over the winter, so in October ring before you set off.

  2. The Loch Side Café

    The Loch Side Café

    A drink

Afterwards, the Loch Side Café, in the log cabin beside the jetty where customers park free, serves hot chocolate, ice cream and home baking. Tables are inside and out on the deck, looking over the loch and the boating station's little army of ducks. It opens with the boating station, Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm, and shuts over the winter, so in October ring before you set off. Dogs are welcome at the tables outside.

If it rains

In rain the boats stay tied up: have the hot chocolate in the café anyway, then try Blair Castle, 13 minutes up the road, where the dressing-up box in the ballroom is under a roof.
