Bothies, Huts and Cabins on Skye

Small, snug and tucked into the landscape, these are Skye's bothies, shepherd's huts and cabins. Most are made for two, with a stove to light, a big sky outside and very little between you and the view.

There's a special kind of happiness in a very small place to stay. Think of a bothy with thick stone walls and a window on the sea, a shepherd's hut in a garden full of herbs, or a cabin on the moor with a bath outside. On Skye, these little hideaways put you right in the middle of the landscape.

We've picked out our favourite bothies, huts and cabins on the island. Most are just right for two, with a wood-burner or a fire pit, a kettle and a view, and several of them welcome dogs too. Light the stove, pour a dram, and watch the weather roll in over the hills. It's the simplest kind of holiday, and one of the loveliest.
