On the long roads of Wester Ross, a good café makes all the difference. On Strath Square in Gairloch, a timber-lined coffee house serves scones with a following of their own, along with cheesecakes and cookies, and a door leads through to a little bookshop full of mountaineering and travel. At Tornapress, at the foot of the Bealach na Bà, a café and gallery does soups, breakfasts and carrot cake, with local crafts and jewellery on show. Dogs are welcome too. Hours change through the year, so check before making a special trip.
