Mountain Coffee Co

A coffee house in Gairloch with home baking and famous scones, joined to Hillbillies, a small bookshop packed with mountaineering, travel and unusual fiction.

Welcome

On Strath Square in Gairloch, a timber-lined coffee house has become a fixture of the road round the north-west.

The Mountain Coffee Company serves good coffee and a counter of home baking, and its scones in particular have a following of their own; there are cheesecakes, bagels, crumbles and cookies too.

Through a door is Hillbillies, a small bookshop crammed from floor to ceiling. It leans towards the outdoors, mountaineering, walking, cycling and adventure, with travel writing, nature and local maps and guides, and a big, idiosyncratic choice of fiction, classics and hard-to-find titles. It is easy to lose an hour browsing, coffee in hand.

There are seats outside for fine days, dogs are welcome, and it opens every day from nine until five. Gairloch's beaches, its museum and the road to Loch Maree are all close by.
