Welcome

There’s something lovely about a links right beside the beach, and Gairloch’s sits between the road and the shore of Loch Gairloch in Wester Ross.

Golf has been played here since 1898, on land given to the club by Sir Kenneth MacKenzie of Gairloch. It’s a nine-hole course with a second set of tees for eighteen, short but full of character, with a few blind shots and holes that cross each other. Look west and you’ll see the Minch and the islands of Skye, Harris and Lewis. Book a tee time online first, and finish in the Links Café, which is open to everyone.

Hole highlights

Gairloch fits nine holes into a small piece of links, so some of them cross each other. A second set of tees turns them into eighteen, keeping the same names.

  1. 4

    Blind Piper

    Par 3 · 227 yards

A long par three, and the hardest hole on the front nine. The tee shot is blind, but you get a good look at what’s coming while you play the 2nd and 3rd. From the 13th tee it becomes a par four of 238 yards.

  2. 5

    Caberfeidh

    Par 4 · 312 yards

You cross the 8th fairway from the 4th green to reach this tee. Played again as the 14th, it stretches to 429 yards and is the hardest hole on the card.

  3. 7

    An Dun

    Par 3 · 87 yards

Just 87 yards from every tee, and the shortest hole on the card. It is partly blind, and one reviewer rates it the best short hole he has played.

  4. 8

    Traigh Mor

    Par 5 · 526 yards

The only par five, 526 yards from the white tees both times round. The 9th crosses it on the way back in.
