Stirlingshire

Along the Highland Boundary Fault.

Much of Stirlingshire's wild country sits on the Highland Boundary Fault, the line where the Lowlands meet the hills. Above Balmaha, Conic Hill climbs steeply to a view over Loch Lomond's islands, strung along the fault. Near Aberfoyle, the Lake of Menteith holds a priory on its island, and the Duke's Pass winds over the hills to Loch Achray. Waterfalls pour off the Highland edge at Callander, Killin and Inversnaid, and a red sandstone gorge lies hidden near Killearn. Nearer Stirling are the university's loch and woods, and a safari park with lions. Conic Hill is short but steep, so take your time.
