Island beer and an upstairs fiddle session.
A drink in Lerwick can come with a sea view, a cocktail or a fiddle tune. On Mounthooly Street, musicians walk into an upstairs room, sit down among the drinkers and play. There's no stage and no ticket, and the tunes run until they stop. Out on Sea Road, a café bar on the rocks of Breiwick Bay turns to cocktails as the light goes. On Commercial Street, a family restaurant pours island beer alongside its seasonal cooking. Go early for the music, sit at the edge of the room and don't talk over the playing.
