North Berwick's High Street and beyond.

Most of the shopping here is on North Berwick's High Street, a run of independent shops a short walk from the beach. There's Scandinavian homeware, statement furniture and lamps, natural soaps and candles made in the town, a gift shop behind a pale green front, and a pet shop with treats for the dog. One shop gives space to more than thirty local makers, with a deli and a café under a tree. Near Linlithgow, an organic farm shop sells its own vegetables, and in Portobello a bookshop fills an old tackle shop. Bring a bag, and leave time for a coffee.
