Dundee
Mill dining and Broughty Ferry bars.
Dundee's restaurants carry a good deal of the city's own history. One fills a long room in the Lower Dens Mill, where the Baxter family began spinning in 1822, and it's named after a much-loved mill girl. Another, on Whitehall Crescent by Slessor Gardens, has copper-topped bars, leather booths and a beer garden. On the Nethergate, a small Tex-Mex café sits in the pink building where Lemmings was first dreamed up. Along Brook Street in Broughty Ferry, there's a family bar open from brunch till late and a café bistro with palm-leaf walls. Book ahead for Friday and Saturday nights.
