Aberdeenshire

Old pines and a royal loch.

Aberdeenshire's wild places run from the edge of the Cairngorms to the sea. Walk among ancient Scots pines on a great Deeside estate, round a long mountain loch at the head of Glen Muick, or through birchwoods and heath on a national nature reserve. The Dee squeezes through a narrow gorge under a granite bridge, and on the coast there are dunes, salt marsh and reed beds full of birds. Look out for red squirrels and ospreys, and pack a waterproof.
