Welcome

On the corner of the High Street in Fortrose, a striking black and white building holds The Anderson, an inn dating back to the 1840s that is now a hotel, a pub, a smokehouse kitchen and, above all, a whisky bar.

Its shelves hold some 240 single malts, alongside an enormous collection of beers from around the world.

The food is generous and full of flavour, cooked in the smokehouse style with influences from around the world, and visitors praise dishes such as the fish cakes and the haggis. The whole place is famously welcoming to dogs, and staff are known to bring a bowl of water before you ask. On the first and third Sundays of the month there is a traditional music session in the evening.

There are rooms upstairs for bed and breakfast. In summer The Anderson opens from Wednesday to Sunday, with drinks from four and food from five, and tables are booked by phone.
