On the grass above the long sandy beach at Rosemarkie, a round wooden barrel sauna on a trailer puffs woodsmoke from its chimney.

This is Highland Mobile Sauna, and it brings a simple pleasure to the Black Isle: heat up, run down to the sea for a bracing dip, then back into the warmth again.

The sauna is wood-fired, using locally sourced, sustainable logs, and through its doorway you look straight out over the sand to the Moray Firth. You can book a single seat at a public session for £15, or take the whole sauna for a private session with up to six friends for £60.

Sessions at Rosemarkie run on Friday evenings and through the day at weekends, and they are booked online. The same team also hires out mobile saunas, delivered anywhere in the Highlands for parties, weddings and festivals. The beach cafe is right beside it for a warm drink afterwards.
