Welcome

The Tayvallich Café and Takeaway is a small coffee shop by the pier in Tayvallich, a picturesque fishing village on the shores of Loch Sween in Knapdale, twenty minutes west of Lochgilphead, and the place the Jura passenger ferry sails from.

It looks out over what it calls one of the most picturesque village harbours in Scotland, and in fine weather you can eat on its deck above the bay.

Its philosophy is to keep things local, fresh and wholesome: everything is baked and prepared on the premises, and much of it is sourced nearby. The menu typically runs to vegetarian soup, burgers, toasties, bacon rolls and a selection of cakes, with coffee and tea. It is friendly to children, and well-behaved dogs are welcome on the deck. It gives work experience to the village's teenagers. In autumn it opens from Thursday to Monday, 9.30am to 3.30pm; call ahead to book, especially for a large party.
