Welcome

Seasgair is the Gaelic for warm and comfortable, and it's the name of the evening restaurant at Inverlochy Castle, a 19th-century castle hotel in the foothills of Ben Nevis, just outside Fort William.

The menu is overseen by Michel Roux Jr, and the evening runs the same way for everyone. You're welcomed in the Great Hall with drinks and canapés at seven, then sit down to five courses built on ingredients from local producers, finishing with petits fours and tea or coffee. The menu changes with the seasons, and you can add paired wines. It's a dressed-up night out: gentlemen are asked to wear a jacket, and children are welcome if they're happy in a formal setting. Queen Victoria spent a week at Inverlochy in 1873, sketching and painting, and wrote that she had never seen a lovelier or more romantic spot. Non-residents are welcome, and booking ahead is highly recommended.
