Saileag

A Munro of 956 metres on the north side of Glen Shiel in Kintail, climbed from the A87 by the Bealach an Lapain.

Welcome

Saileag rises to 956 metres on the north side of Glen Shiel in Kintail, among the hills between Loch Duich and Cannich.

It is the west end of a line of three Munros: Sgurr a' Bhealaich Dheirg is under 2 km to the east, with Aonach Meadhoin beyond, and Saileag is the lowest of the three. Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe is about 3.5 km to the west.

The usual way up starts from the A87 in Glen Shiel and climbs to the Bealach an Lapain, west of the summit. Kintail Mountain Rescue Team calls its ground particularly demanding, with large areas of consistently steep ground and well-defined ridges. It warns that mobile coverage is poor in places, and that conditions on the hills can be very different from those at the roadside. There is no avalanche forecast for this hill, but that does not mean there is no risk under snow. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
