Finlay MacDonald grew up in Glenshiel, and at sixteen he started experimenting in his parents' kitchen with his two favourite things, good Scottish food and chocolate.

Today he has a kitchen, café and gift shop of his own on the road through the glen, with the mountains and Loch Duich all around.

The chocolate is made with Highland ingredients: foraged elderflower, whisky from Skye, gin from Harris, sea salt, tablet, even haggis spice. In the café the hot chocolate comes in different strengths, from a milky 34% to a dark 72%, with whipped cream and homemade marshmallows if you like, and there are coffee, cakes, cookies and shortbread too. Buy a bar and the hot drink is free.

The shelves hold chocolates, jams, whisky and local art, and dogs are welcome. It is a good place to break the long drive to Skye, and opens Monday to Saturday from ten until five.
