A' Chraileag

A Munro of 1,120 metres on the north side of Loch Cluanie, climbed from the A87 by its steep south ridge.

Welcome

A' Chraileag rises to 1,120 metres on the north side of Loch Cluanie, the long hydro reservoir beside the A87 on the road to Skye.

It is number 34 of the 282 Munros by height, and taller than every one of its neighbours. Mullach Fraoch-choire is about 2.5 km to the north, Ciste Dhubh lies to the north-west, and Sgurr nan Conbhairean and Sail Chaorainn are both under 4 km to the east.

The usual way up starts from the A87 at the west end of Loch Cluanie and climbs the hill's steep south ridge. Kintail Mountain Rescue Team calls its ground particularly demanding, with large areas of consistently steep ground and well-defined ridges. It warns that mobile coverage is poor in places, and that conditions on the hills can be very different from those at the roadside. There is no avalanche forecast for this hill, but that does not mean there is no risk under snow. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
