Loup of Fintry

A waterfall on the Endrick Water by the B818 east of Fintry, where the river leaps about 28 metres down a staircase of rock.

Welcome

Loup is the old Scots word for a leap, and on a wet day it's easy to see why.

Here the Endrick Water throws itself down a great staircase of rock, dropping about 28 metres over a series of steps into a steep gorge. It's on the B818 east of the village of Fintry, on the road to Carron Valley, and the falls are only a few minutes' walk from a small parking space by the road. The path is short but often muddy, so wear boots, and keep well back from the edge above the gorge. There's a grassy spot at the top of the falls that makes a lovely place for a picnic, with the hills rolling away all around you. It's at its best when the river is full after rain, so time your visit for a wet spell if you can, and finish with lunch at the Fintry Inn in the village.
