Introduction
A popular walking spot near the head of the River Irvine, Loudon Hill is actually a volcanic plug in the east of Ayrshire. The hill has been notably associated with two Scottish heroes – Robert the Bruce and William Wallace. For the latter, a monument stands to those he killed and for the former, it marks the location of the Battle of Loudon Hill, a decisive victory against the English.
