Johnstons of Elgin

The cashmere and tweed mill on the River Lossie in Elgin, making cloth since 1797, with mill tours, a mill shop and a coffee shop.

Welcome

On the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin, Johnstons has been making cloth since 1797.

It is now famous around the world for its cashmere and fine tweeds, and it still makes them here, in Scotland's only vertical mill, where the wool is dyed, spun, made into cloth and finished all on the one site.

You can see the craft for yourself on one of the Mill Experiences, which take you among the dyers, spinners and weavers at work. They are popular, so book ahead.

The Mill Shop is a treat, with knitwear, scarves, blankets and throws for women, men, children and the home, and the Weavers Coffee Shop makes a good stop for lunch or cake. The whole site is accessible, parking is free, and it opens every day from nine until half past five. It is a short walk from the cathedral.
