Great Glen Way Viewpoint, Loch Lochy
A high point on the Great Glen Way above Loch Lochy, looking down the long loch between forested hills.
The Great Glen Way runs for 125 kilometres from the Old Fort in Fort William to Inverness Castle, following the long, straight glen that cuts across the Highlands.
Much of it follows the Caledonian Canal and the lochsides, but in places it takes to forest tracks on the hillsides, and above Loch Lochy the view opens out.
From this high point the whole loch stretches away below, calm and dark between steep, wooded slopes, with bare ridges rising above the trees. It is a fine place to stop, catch your breath and see how far the glen runs.
The Way passes three great lochs, Lochy, Oich and Ness, along canal towpaths, forest tracks and old drove roads, and most walkers take five to seven days over it. You can also walk this section on its own, as part of a day on the wooded shores of Loch Lochy.
