Geal Charn

A Munro of 926 metres in the Monadhliath above Glen Markie, near Laggan, climbed from Garva Bridge or the Spey Dam.

Welcome

Geal Charn, 926 metres, stands in the Monadhliath above Glen Markie, north of the Spey Dam near Laggan.

It is one of four Munros that share the name, and it keeps its distance from the others in these hills: the nearest Munro, Carn Dearg, is about eight kilometres to the north-east. An old track through Glen Markie, a heritage path to Whitebridge, crosses the plateau north-east of the hill, with rough peat hags for many miles to the west of it.

The Cairngorms National Park Authority gives October for stags, and January and early February for hinds, as the key stalking periods, and Mountaineering Scotland says stags can now be stalked at any time of year. No avalanche forecast covers the Monadhliath, and under snow that does not mean there is no risk. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
