Castletown Chip Shop
A small village chip shop on Mackay Street in Castletown, between Thurso and Dunnet, frying fish, home-made patties and chips in the evenings at the end of the week.
In the village of Castletown, on the coast road between Thurso and Dunnet, a small white pebble-dashed building on a street corner hangs out a round sign: Castletown Fish and Chip Shop.
The fish is fresh, much of it landed at Scrabster just along the coast, and alongside it come local pies, sausages and puddings, black pudding, a king rib and home-made patties. The chips have their fans, too.
It is a takeaway, and it keeps short hours, opening only in the early evening from Thursday to Saturday, so plan ahead. On a fine evening, take your supper a few minutes up the road and eat it on the dunes above Dunnet beach, looking out over the bay.
